Ready made garments export council (RMGEC) is a non profit agency established by the Ministerial Decree No.207 for the year 2005. It is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and an assembly of the most prominent ready made garments exporters.

The vision of RMGEC is to position Egypt as an international hub for ready made garments in terms of design, quality, cost-effectiveness and warehousing, vertical manufacturing, resources, cheap costs, geographical location and trade agreements, etc…

In 2007, the council initiated its promotional project for the council and its members. The project was technically supported by the council and its active members, financially supported by ExpoLink and implemented by XPOSE Communications. The beneficiaries of the project are 200 manufacturers/ exporters/members.

The project involves the ready made garments export council portal, filming factories of 100 members, creating interactive multimedia templates for 200 members, creating a detailed database of 200 members, a quarterly newsletter of the industry for both local and international news, creating awareness to the members on several levels such as IT awareness, training awareness and the most significant is the international markets awareness. The service extends to domain name creation as well as email addresses creation for the members. In addition to local beneficiaries, the portal creates awareness to the users from the international markets, interested in the industry in terms of import/export, joint venture and or partnership. The range of information extends to creating a news hub, online stock market live trade information, laws, services and a section for the media.

Mission:
The mission of RMGEC is to become the mediator between the ready made garments sector and all other stakeholders.
This pivotal role will enable RMGEC to partner with the various stakeholders to create awareness of the significance of the RMG sector, boost the Egyptian economy, improve efficiency and effectiveness of the sector and ensure transparency in all dealings. By establishing itself as the RMG mediator, the RMGEC will be able to liaise and develop strong ties with all concerned parties in the RMG sector to foster mutual interests. In addition, by setting standards of excellence for the RMG manufacturers for market entry and ensuring modernization of the industrial process and techniques, RMGEC will be able to attract domestic and foreign investors, thus becoming a major catalyst not only in the ready made garments sector, but also in the Egyptian economy.
By accomplishing this mission, RMGEC will occupy a central role in the political arena that allows it to affect and influence laws, policies and regulations concerning all SME affairs. In turn, this will enable the promotion of lobbying for the different ready made garments interests. The RMGEC will become akin to the focal lobe, which provides services to all stakeholders, amongst which are accurate and consistent information, promotion and marketing of the competitive advantage of the Egyptian ready made garments sector and educate all stakeholders regarding the requirements and business opportunities available in this sector.

Objectives:
The RMGEC has set a number of objectives to accomplish its vision and mission. The focal milestones involve:

i. Mediation: RMGEC is to identify key stakeholders in the ready made garments sector, assume this position and develop strategic partnerships.

ii. Policy Advocacy: RMGEC is to be able to influence policy in the RMGEC industry to create business opportunities which leads to strengthening the Egyptian economy by developing strong ties with the various key stakeholders.

iii. Assessment: RMGEC is to identify weaknesses and shortcomings in the ready made garments sector in order to
foster and develop those needs. It must study the needs of foreign markets to be able to set benchmarks for export. By evaluating the current situation of the ready made garments sector and the foreign markets, the RMGEC can be in a better position to assess the needed policies for the ready made garments sector. The RMGEC will evaluate export capability and product suitability for the potential market.

iv. Market Research: RMGEC is to conduct market research and amass critical information on the RMGEC industry in Egypt and internationally. It will become the lead provider in accurate information and market information.

v. Training: RMGEC is to assume the role of the educator and trainer to the ready made garments sector. It will offer the manufacturers training opportunities to assist them in increasing efficiency, developing export potential and strengthening existing resources.

Services:
RMGEC services are not limited but extend to assisting the ready made garments manufacturers in:

• Assessing the export potential of the ready made garments manufacturer.

• Researching foreign markets.

• Providing information on export planning.

• Determining routes to international markets.

• Promoting ready made garments products.

• Determining pricing of products.

• Creating awareness to export financing and payments facilities available.

• Applying export documentation strategies.

• Preparing export plans.

• Creating awareness to IT related to the sector.

• Creating awareness to vocational/management training available services.

Key Performance Indicators:
RMGEC has set performance indicators to ensure the accomplishment of its objectives. As a result of the dedicated efforts of the RMGEC staff and members, below are some of the achievements:

• Issuance of phase one of the council's web portal to serve the members.

• Issuance of a quarterly newsletter providing latest domestic and international information on the ready made garments sector and available opportunities.

• Develop a comprehensive database of the ready made garments exporters, buyers and sourcing offices, as well as the industry feeders.

• Develop a database on all the assistance programs available to the ready made garments manufacturers and sourcing offices.

• Publish two policy papers.

Future plan of the RMGEC entails:

• Increasing the RMGEC members to 500 members.

• Establish benchmark for the sector.

• Integrating the SMEs within the supply chain of the Egyptian economy.
